Study on Coordinated Control of Battery Energy Storage System in Wind Farms Connected to Power Grid

Abstract:

The simulation model of battery energy storage system(BESS) connected to the power grid with DC/DC converter and DC/AC converter was built,and the control strategies were developed.The wind power generating system with fixed speed induction wind turbines and doubly-fed induction wind turbines connected to the power grid with BESS was built in the PSCAD/EMTDC.According to the steady-state and fault-state of the power gird,the corresponding control strategy of BESS was developed.The research results show that the flexible active power control ability of the BESS can smooth the power fluctuation caused by the changing wind speed.Under the fault-state,the BESS can provide the reactive power support to stabilize the grid voltage and improve the low voltage ride-through(LVRT) ability of the wind farm.
