Application and Practice of Energy Storage Control Technology for Assiting Thermal Unit Frequency Regulation

Abstract:

At present, the increasing integration of new energy sources is leading to an increasing demand for grid frequency regulation. In order to fully explore the potential of battery energy storage system(BESS)in improving the frequency regulation performance of traditional thermal power units, a segmented control strategy and a state of charge (SOC) maintenance strategy are proposed for optimizing the frequency regulation index of long-term operating systems. The comparative analysis of the proposed strategy with the traditional differential control strategy and the historical comprehensive frequency regulation performance indicators k of the unit shows that under the condition of an operation duration of more than 20 hours throughout the day, the proposed strategy can still achieve a comprehensive frequency regulation performance indicator of 2.0 or above which is significantly better than the 0.8 for the individual frequency regulation of thermal power units and the 1.2 for the traditional differential control strategy. This verifies the effectiveness of the proposed strategy and has important reference significance for subsequent engineering practices.
